The Mainz football coach Bo Herinksen tried to quickly rebuild his goalkeeper Robin Zentner after his serious mistake in the 1:2 (1:1) at Bayer Leverkusen.
“I went to him straight away and told him that it was part of life,” said the new coach of FSV Mainz 05 after the game.
Zentner initially let a harmless long-range shot from Robert Andrich (68th minute) slip through his hands for the final score and then punched himself into the net.
“You are good and strong and have a big heart,” Henriksen continued of his encouraging words to his unfortunate goalkeeper. “I told him that he would definitely save us before the end of the season.” After matchday 23, Mainz is in a direct relegation zone with just 15 points.
“Since I’ve been here, he’s been a fantastic keeper. Now we have to build him up and get behind him,” Henriksen had said shortly before on DAZN.
