If you put on a Kitty, Daisy & Lewis record and ask 100 people when it was released, the most common answer would probably be somewhere around the 1960s. The three siblings from London shape a sound that can neither be found on a Swiftie’s release radar nor in the pop landscape. It is a journey into the past – achieved through the use of equipment from that time. The music is usually recorded on vintage analogue devices, often directly on lacquer film.
No less surprising are the band’s role models: Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and Rufus Thomas. Appropriately, their musical style can best be assigned to the genres of swing, blues, country and rock’n’roll, which the multi-instrumentalists impressively demonstrate with the use of double bass, trombone and accordion. Since their debut album “Kitty, Daisy & Lewis” (2008), the three have released four studio albums – “Smoking in Heaven” (2011), “The Third” (2015) and “Superscope” (2017) – and have sold over a quarter of a million records worldwide.
