In September 2022, her former colleagues on the council organized ‘Walking for Lidy’, a campaign to raise money for research into and combating ALS. Throughout the entire municipality of Coevorden, family members, friends, council members, aldermen, mayor and municipal employees walked part of the two hundred kilometer long Cultuurpad. The sponsored walk raised more than 20,000 euros.
Friday evening from 7:00 pm to 7:45 pm there is an opportunity to offer condolences to the family and to say goodbye to Klein-Gunnewiek, at her home at Schoolstraat 18 in Holsloot. Instead of flowers, her family asks for a contribution to the ALS Foundation. The funeral is private.
