This week, a start was made on the demolition of the former Hartgers car company building on Schutstraat. The accommodation will make way for the new construction of Babydump, which is currently located on Griendtsveenweg.
In recent years, MobiVit, the company with aids for the elderly, was located in the old Hartgers building. At the end of 2020, the FTH Group, which owns Babydump, already purchased the former Hartgers complex.
KFC
Last year it was announced that fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) was also interested in establishing a location in the area opposite the A28 motorway.
The municipality does not want to say whether the fast food chain is still in the picture. “We can only say that there is an application for a new development in that area,” a spokesperson said. “It concerns an extensive spatial procedure in which all interests are weighed.”
Difficult
KFC does not respond to questions from this newspaper. According to sources, the fast food chain has several locations under investigation. The arrival of KFC (with a drive-thru) on the Schutstraat in Hoogeveen is particularly difficult from a traffic perspective.
The northern entrance to Hoogeveen is a very busy area with two intersections and a frequently used two-way cycle path. It must also fit in well with the Venesluis district behind it
