Basel (AP) – The former Swiss national soccer player and BVB professional Alex Frei is returning to FC Basel as a coach.
The 42-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the runners-up in the Super League season that has just ended (behind FC Zurich) and will succeed interim coach Guillermo Abascal. The association announced this.
Frei was only promoted to the Super League as a coach with Winterthur last Saturday. As a striker, he played 167 games for FC Basel, scored 108 goals, won the championship four times and won the cup twice.
