Former alderman of Ypres Dominique Dehaene is new director of Special Olympics Belgium
Dominique Dehaene is currently still working as chief of staff of Skeyes, the organization responsible for air traffic control, but will become the new director of Special Olympics Belgium on 1 October.
Before his career at Skeyes, Dominique was alderman for CD&V in Ypres. He is the son of former mayor Luc Dehaene.
Strong social commitment
Dominique is an avid athlete, strongly socially engaged and closely involved with the challenges and opportunities of inclusion of people with disabilities. “His forward-looking vision, strong personal values and strategic orientation will undoubtedly contribute to the further development of Special Olympics in Belgium.” Dehaene says he is looking forward to further promoting sports for athletes with a disability and thus contributing to an inclusive society. “I have always looked for meaning, social added value and passion in my work and in my daily life. Special Olympics Belgium combines all of this and also links it to my greatest passion: sport.”
Dehaene succeeds former radio director at DPG Media An Caers. She became CEO of the Special Olympics in June last year, but the partnership ended in April. “A difference in vision of how the organization can evolve further lies at the basis of this decision,” it said in a statement.
