Former Agricultural House in Assen gets a makeover: a place to live for 180 Ukrainians

In Assen, the former Drenthe Agricultural House has been working for weeks to convert the building into a reception location for 180 Ukrainians. It will be the fourth place to live for refugees from Ukraine in the provincial capital. In total, more than 750 Ukrainians will soon be living in Assen.

Everything must be ready on the Oostersingel on 1 July for the reception of the first group of refugees. The Ukrainians come directly from their country where they are still fleeing the violence of war, or from other reception locations in our country that are no longer available.

In Assen, 140 Ukrainians have been living in a former building of the Univé insurance company for a year now. Later, two more office buildings were added at the Lauwers and the Eemland, where 300 and 150 refugees from Ukraine now live. The provincial capital thus receives by far the most Ukrainians in the province of Drenthe.
