The Liberal People’s Party Roermond (LVR), GroenLinks, CDA and VVD will try to form a coalition together in Roermond.
This is done under the supervision of LVR’s trainer Dirk Franssen. He will start the talks this weekend. The four parties met on Friday under Franssen’s leadership.

To trust
“At the end of this discussion, the four parties have expressed their confidence in each other and jointly confirmed that they want to start the formation process,” the formateur said in a statement. It also appears that no one has made any reservations, for example about the possible return of Jos van Rey as alderman.
CDA & LVR
Last Wednesday, during the presentation of Franssen’s final report as an informateur, the CDA had asked it to have questions before it wanted to say ‘yes’ to a coalition of LVR, GroenLinks, CDA and VVD. They were also asked on Thursday. The CDA stated in it that the disturbed relations from the past must first be removed before the formation can be started.
Disturbed relationships
“In order to be able to face the future together with confidence, it is necessary to identify and remove the images, frustrations and irritations between the parties involved,” the CDA said. The party found the proposed approach of the informant insufficient. For years, relations between CDA and LVR in particular had been disturbed.
However, Franssen states in his answer that he devoted three pages to this theme in his final report. “In their conversation with me, the parties have expressed pain to a greater or lesser extent – or words of similar or different meaning. Based on the input of all parties, I reported on this in my final report and made suggestions,” Franssen writes. He says that he cannot elaborate further on the basis of the agreements made with the parties.

‘Not my job’
Against the CDA comment that it lacks advice from the informateur about a new method of the city council, Franssen states that it is not his task to give advice on everything that has been discussed. Moreover, a new working method is not a matter for the coalition alone, but for the entire municipal council. Franssen does indicate that he will come back to it during the formation.
Franssen answers the third CDA question about what the formation process will look like in steps by saying that such a plan is never indicated in advance at the start of a formation.
Media
Franssen also regrets that the CDA has sent her questions to the media ‘unilaterally and without consultation’. This would have violated the agreements made. Nevertheless, informateur Franssen and the CDA seem to have put a line under their dispute. And so work will be done on a coalition of LVR, GroenLinks, CDA and VVD. Together they account for 21 of the 31 seats in the municipal council.
