Formation in Borger-Odoorn ‘prosperous’, aldermen announced

The five constituent parties in Borger-Odoorn say they are speeding up the conclusion of a coalition agreement, and have announced the intended aldermen in the run-up to this.

PvdA, Leefbaar Borger Odoorn, VVD, CDA and the ChristenUnie want to present the definitive plans for the coming years later this month. Henk Zwiep (PvdA), Bernard Jansen (LBO), Jeroen Hartsuiker (VVD) and Ankie Huijing-van Tongeren (CDA, also on behalf of ChristenUnie) must govern the municipality.

After the elections, informateur Johan van Tiel advised a new council without the largest IC Party (seven seats). He focused on a municipal council with five parties, consisting of PvdA, Leefbaar Borger Odoorn, VVD, CDA and CU.

These five parties say the talks are progressing well. According to them, the number of four aldermen “does justice to the big job that we as a municipality will face in the coming years”, they say in a joint statement. Tasks in the fields of energy, housing and the social domain “require an active college that is close to our residents. A college that listens in order to do the right thing for everyone in Borger-Odoorn”.

The parties do not object to an aldermanship of VVD member Hartsuiker, who lives in Emmen instead of in the municipality of Borger-Odoorn. “He knows our municipality well and, in addition to knowledge, he also brings with him a large provincial and The Hague network. We can use this well with the challenges we face. In addition, we have learned recently that an alderman from outside the municipality is no obstacle to functioning as a councilor has to be.”
