Shohei Ohtani will play baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Japanese superstar signed a 10-year contract and will earn 700 million dollars (650 million euros) during that period. That is a record in the baseball world.
The contract is larger than the deal that Lionel Messi had at FC Barcelona between 2017 and 2021. Even if Kilian Mbappé extends his contract with PSG until 2025, he will not reach $700 million.
Several clubs were interested in the 29-year-old Ohtani, who had a transfer-free status. The Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants failed to land the Asian.
“To all the fans and everyone involved in the baseball world, I apologize for taking so long to reach a decision,” Ohtani wrote on Instagram. “I have decided to choose the Dodgers as my next employer. I promise to always do what is best for the team.”
