Forest fires in southwestern France are getting bigger | Abroad

In Landiras, the fire spread to the southwest last night due to strong winds. In total, about 6,500 hectares of forest were burned on that spot. A little further west, in Teste-de-Buch, more than 3000 hectares of forest have been affected. The fire did not get bigger there during the night, but it is also not yet under control and there is a good chance that the fire will flare up again.

Also in other places in Europe, such as in Portugal and Spain, forest fires are raging as a result of the heat. In Spain near Extremadura, near the border with Portugal, and near Castille and Leon in the center of the country. Residents there have also been evacuated. In the Spanish region of Catalonia, authorities have taken precautionary measures to prevent forest fires. Camping is prohibited around 275 towns and villages.

In almost all of Portugal, large parts of Spain and parts of France, a heat plan for extreme weather has been in place for days. Temperatures in Europe will remain high in the coming days. Extreme temperatures are also forecast for today in France. More northerly in Europe, precautions are now also being taken against the predicted heat of the coming days.

Forest fires are also raging elsewhere in Europe, as this Portuguese journalist also experienced (video).
