In response to the death of Alexei Navalny and hundreds of arrests in Russia, the federal government has summoned the Russian ambassador.
After the death of the imprisoned Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny, the federal government summoned the Russian ambassador. A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said on Monday in Berlin that “the politically motivated proceedings” against Navalny and other opposition figures and “the inhumane prison conditions” showed “how brutally the Russian justice system acts against dissidents.”
It is also “shocking that people in Russia are being arrested while laying flowers” in memory of the slain Navalny. After Navalny’s death, Russian courts have so far imposed more than 200 sentences in urgent proceedings against the mourners taking part in spontaneous commemorations.
