Ford cuts 3,000 jobs | Economy

The automaker sent an email to employees about this on Monday. It states that the employees concerned will be informed of the cutbacks from this week.

The staff reduction is mainly affecting workers in the United States, a company spokesperson said. About 2,000 jobs will disappear at Ford in Dearborn, Michigan. A spokesperson for the group does not rule out the possibility of more jobs disappearing. Bloomberg news agency previously reported that Ford is considering cutting up to 8,000 jobs.

Ford split its operations into two business units in March, one for electric vehicles and one for combustion engine vehicles. Significant action is being taken in the latter department in particular, as was previously known.

The group wants to invest 50 billion dollars (more than 50 billion euros) in making and marketing electric cars. By the end of 2026, Ford aims to make 2 million electric-powered cars per year. Last year there were less than 30,000.
