It may be just one of many awards ABBA have received in their great career, but it is one of great appreciation!
The band received the Swedish Music Export Award on Wednesday (March 23) for their contribution to Swedish music in 2021, in which they stepped back into the limelight and released a new record for the first time in 40 years.
Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad managed a coup last year, outlined by the announcement of innovative digital shows in London. Needless to say, ABBA also dominated the charts with “Voyage”.
“Thank You For The Music”
Now there is, so to speak, the big thank you from the Swedish government. What ABBA began in 1972 “was the first major step in the history of Swedish music’s worldwide success,” it said in a statement. Of course not without the reference to “Thank You For The Music”.
The Swedish government pointed out that ABBA’s latest album, Voyage, topped the charts in 18 countries, was the year’s best-selling album in Germany and the band’s highest-selling position in the United States.
A memorable moment for the biggest ABBA fans
The Swedish band also had a spectacular announcement ready when the award was presented: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson are to appear together again at the big opening show of “ABBA Voyage”.
It said on Facebook: “Björn has revealed that all four ABBA members will be present at the ABBA Voyage opening on May 26th. When asked what he is most proud of when it comes to ABBA, Benny said the four are still such good friends despite going through marriages and divorces.”
Incidentally, singer and pianist Jennie Abrahamson covered ‘I Have A Dream’ at the Government’s Music Export Prize, which Benny followed up with a ‘Yeah!’ elicited.
