For the happy few: First hydrogen filling station opened | 1Limburg

There are still few cars that run on hydrogen, but the first hydrogen filling station in Limburg was opened in Horst on Thursday.

Gerbert Vissers of Vissers Energy Group was the first to use the new station with his hydrogen car. A godsend for him, because earlier he had to refuel in Mönchengladbach and Arnhem. “I think it still prevents many people from driving on hydrogen, because there are still few hydrogen filling stations. There are now about 15 stations in the Netherlands.”

Range
According to Vissers, the advantage is that the range of a hydrogen-powered car is about 600 kilometers with a full tank. “Hydrogen costs about 12 euros per kilo. And a full tank is 6 kilos, so about 60 euros. Compared to petrol, it is cheaper.”

natural gas
Until now, most hydrogen is made from natural gas. But in the future this should become green energy. A lot of work is being done on the technology required for this, hydrolysis. “Then it really makes sense in terms of sustainability to produce gas stations and cars on a large scale,” says Emma Zadeits of TU Delft.
