For now unclear whether found human remains of Sumanta Bansi are: “Further research needed”

It is not yet clear whether the human remains found yesterday in Hoorn belong to Sumanta Bansi. This is reported by the Public Prosecution Service. The remains were taken to the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI), but no definitive answer could be given yet.

Additional investigations will be conducted at the site where the remains were found yesterday. Divers are also used for this.

The Public Prosecution Service informs NH Nieuws that the research into the human remains has ‘the highest priority’. What complicates the investigation is that the body was probably left there a long time ago. As a result, it takes more time, according to a spokesperson.

‘Strong suspicion’

on NH Radio says press officer of the Public Prosecution Service Dop Kruim that there will be clarity within a few days: “We had the hope that we could quickly answer the question whether it is Sumanta. But we do not know for sure yet. Of course we have a strong suspicion but we really want to know for sure and that requires some ‘deeper’ technical research. It will be a matter of whether it will be before or after the weekend before we have it clear,” says Kruimel.

The case gained momentum because suspect Manodj B., at the insistence of his new lawyer, Theo Hiddema, gave openness about what exactly happened and what he did with the body.

B. was sentenced to 15 years in prison last summer for the murder of Sumanta, but has always denied having anything to do with it. Sumanta’s body had been missing for four years.

interrogation

B. would have revealed more during an interrogation yesterday morning. Immediately afterwards, several detectives went to the edge of the business park in Hoorn to search.

In recent years, searches have already been made in the De Hulk nature reserve and at the Robbenoordbos, near the Afsluitdijk. That was without result.

Yesterday, the lawyer for Sumanta’s parents said that they reacted ‘very emotionally’ to the new developments in the search for their daughter’s body.

After all these years, the family mainly hopes for clarity. Sumanta’s mother Sharmila made a very emotional appeal to suspect Manodj B. in court last summer and begged him to finally talk about what he did to her daughter.
