For more than 30 years Siegfried Dietrich worked for the footballers and their sport, now he is retiring from his duties at Eintracht Frankfurt – for health reasons.

Eintracht Frankfurt will have to do without Siegfried Dietrich in the future: The 65-year-old is withdrawing from Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG at his own request with immediate effect and will be retiring as General Manager on December 31, 2022. The club announced this on Thursday. Health reasons made this step necessary, the report said.

Dietrich listens to signals from the body

Dietrich, who also held the role of sports director for women’s football at the club, had already taken a four-month sabbatical in 2021. “Since the end of the last very strenuous season, the activities related to the European Championship and the DFB as well as the intensive preparations for the very challenging season that has just begun, he has received increased signals from my body that remind me of my health situation from a year and a half ago remember years ago,” he said.

Dietrich went on to explain: “All reasons that make it necessary to react early, appropriately and sustainably to my health situation, which is unfortunately not always stable, and to withdraw from my tasks at Eintracht Frankfurt as well as from my honorary posts at the DFB with effect from 31 December 2022.”

Accordingly, he will withdraw from day-to-day business in the next few days and has asked the Eintracht board to terminate his contract at the end of the year. “Only if I take myself out completely and gain distance for a longer period of time, do I see very good chances of not experiencing the situation from 2021 again and getting back on track in the best possible way in terms of health.”

Great successes with 1. FFC Frankfurt

Dietrich has been one of the most influential figures in women’s football since the 1990s. Under his leadership, 1. FFC Frankfurt celebrated great national and international success before merging with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2020. Dietrich was also active in various DFB committees.

In the meantime, head coach Niko Arnautis should temporarily take over his tasks at Eintracht and distribute them within the organization according to subject, as it was said.
