It’s spring in Zoetermeer! The blossom blooms and the bees are buzzing around again. Unfortunately, bees are having an increasingly difficult time in the Netherlands, but you can help them. April 22 is National Sowing Day for which you can get free flower seeds.

On National Sowing Day, there is extra attention for hungry bees. You can get free flower seeds at various places in the Netherlands, which will make bees very happy. Also nice for you, because your backyard will soon look just as colorful as, for example, the Westerpark.
Free flower seeds
The initiative comes from The Pollinators, which also has food banks for bees at various locations in the Netherlands. There you can get free flower seeds from April 10 and sow them on April 22. The Pollinators is taking this action because bees are having a hard time. There is less and less room for flowers. “And that while they are indispensable in our food chain: 80 percent of our food depends on pollination by bees and related insects,” according to the initiators.
Action
Tom van de Beek is founder of The Pollinators and says about the campaign: “The Dutch landscape, both in the city and in the countryside, has a great lack of diversity. Through the campaign we make it possible for you to directly contribute to more and more diverse food for pollinators. In addition, with this campaign we want to make the Netherlands more aware of our relationship with nature.”
