For example, you can request a sign for a voluntary firework-free zone in your neighbourhood

Don’t feel like noise, mess and nuisance from fireworks in your street? Request a voluntary fireworks-free zone from the municipality. This way you can celebrate New Year’s Eve comfortably at home on the couch.

You can agree with your neighbors to make your street or neighborhood a voluntary fireworks-free zone. You will receive signs from the municipality with which you can indicate the area. Because it is a voluntary firework-free zone, it cannot be enforced.

Here’s what you need to know about applying for a voluntary fireworks-free zone:

  • The voluntary fireworks-free zone applies from December 31, 2022, from 6 p.m. to January 1, 2023, 2 a.m. These are the times when fireworks (in the Netherlands) may be set off.
  • Make clear agreements with your neighbors about the exact area of the voluntary firework-free zone and where you place the signs.
  • If residents do not want to participate, that area cannot be designated as a firework-free zone.
  • Ensure that all residents in the area to which the agreements apply agree with the agreements made.
  • Report the voluntary fireworks-free zone to the municipality and request signs to indicate the area.
  • After confirmation of receipt from the municipality, you can pick up the signs and tie wraps at Bunnik at Fokkerstraat 56. This is possible from 12 to 30 December, from Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 16:00.
  • Hang up the signs along the boundaries of the voluntary fireworks-free area before 6 p.m. on December 31 at the latest.
