for dr Moth, dancing is the best medicine

By Sebastian Bauer

A good trick for getting older: Dr. Motte does not celebrate his 60th birthday, but 30 twice.

“Dr. Motte’s Birthday Celebration 2×30 starts on June 4th with 10 hours of dancing and distinguished guests in the Gardens of the World. But actually the 60 is not even right.

The Loveparade inventor will be 62 years old on July 9th.

Corona is to blame, the party was supposed to start two years ago, but is now being made up for with Nakadia, DJ Rush and many others. How does it dance for hours in early retirement?

“Of course it makes a difference whether I’m 30 or over 60,” says Dr. moth laughing. “But I really want it. There is nothing better than doing what you love. This is a culture that we have developed ourselves. That’s where I get my energy and take it with me into everyday life. That keeps me young.”

The Gardens of the World are more in line with their age. dr So Motte gives himself the biggest bouquet of flowers for his birthday. But Matthias Roeingh – that’s his real name – has always felt happiest in the countryside. “ I like nature very much, I also lived in Havelland at the end of the nineties. In my eyes, people and nature are one anyway.”

And just as nature is constantly buzzing, rustling, crawling and fleeing, Dr. Moth always be on the move. Not an easy thing during the pandemic: “I’m already depressed after a weekend if I can’t hang up. I was really not doing well at that time.”

Fortunately, dancing is now possible again. dr Motte celebrates this with the return of the Love Parade under a new name. At “Rave the Planet” on July 9, homage will be paid to electronic music as a world culture of peace, just like in the old days. dr Motte promises: “The parade should take place annually again.”

The musician would like support from politics. In the direction of Senator for Culture Lederer he says: “Klaus, can we find an appointment this week to talk?” Motte says: “As a city, we have to show together what we can achieve. I would very much like Franziska Giffey to come to the final rally.”

The old motto “peace, joy, pancakes” has a hard time in times of war. But the DJ sticks to his belief in world peace. “I’m staying true to my motto: in the end, everyone wants to live peacefully with one another.” The parade is said to have a float shared by Ukrainian and Russian musicians.

The birthday wish from Dr. Motte hasn’t changed in 30 years: “As early as 1989 I imagined that there would be techno parades in every country in the world and when people celebrate they realize that they are all part of the same family”
