Anything but fair play on the football field of the Bosveld site in Machelen. There, the B-team of OHR Huldenberg (17 to 24-year-olds) took on FC Machelen on Sunday, a team that has only been around for a year. After twenty minutes the match had to be stopped and a MUG was called to transport one of Huldenberg’s players to the hospital in Vilvoorde.

According to Wim Steeno, chairman of Huldenberg, it came to an incident after a ball was played through the legs. “A Machelen player then gave a hard blow to the larynx of one of our players,” it sounds. “He even got knocked out for a moment and couldn’t get up afterwards. I’ve been in the football world for forty years, but I’ve never experienced this.”

Steeno advised the player’s parents to file a complaint with the police. “And we as a club will also do that at the football association.”

The match was, of course, stopped and not restarted. “Even if we have to replay, we won’t. Vossem, the team that has to play against Machelen on Tuesday, has already announced that it does not want to do that. And I have heard that future opponent Moorsel will also refuse to do so.”

It is not the first incident with FC Machelen. In October of last year, a match was stopped after three red cards and high tempers. “To be clear: this is not about KCS Machelen, a team we have been playing against for years and have no problems with,” Steeno emphasizes.

The victim would be doing quite well given the circumstances. “In the hospital, conduction disorders to the heart were diagnosed. That should normalize without intervention. But they do keep our player under observation for 24 hours.”
