Football Women’s Bundesliga: SC Freiburg: A real challenge at the start

As of: September 14, 2023 7:44 a.m

The start of the season presents a real challenge for the SC Freiburg footballers: the Breisgau women are expecting the German champions Bayern Munich.

“Play as far up front as possible and attack at the front.” This is how SC player Janina Minge formulates her goals for the coming season. The first test of the new season is tough: German champions FC Bayern Munich are guests in Breisgau. The last game will probably be a bad memory for the Freiburg team. In Munich, coach Theresa Merk’s team suffered a massive 8-2 defeat.

Winless against Bayern

From SC’s perspective, it would be time for a sense of success against the Munich team. Freiburg has never been able to win against Bayern in the Bundesliga. Last season alone, the sports club conceded eleven goals in two games. For captain Hasret Kayikci, FC Bayern is once again one of the top favorites this season, with Wolfsburg and Frankfurt, for the German championship.

Bayern team packed with top stars

Bayern’s already strong squad has been significantly strengthened. With two absolute top stars who will lead coach Alexander Straus’ team to even more titles in the coming season. Danish offensive force Pernille Harder and Swedish defender Magdalena Eriksson. Both moved from top English club FC Chelsea to the Isar.
