SC Preußen Münster continues to cause a sensation in the 3rd league – but it wasn’t enough to win against 1860 Munich.
The promoted team earned a 1-1 (0-0) draw in a turbulent game on Sunday. Münster didn’t let itself be disturbed by a deficit and has now been unbeaten for six games.
The self-confidence of the Münster team, who played with the same starting eleven for the third time in a row, was evident right from the start. They let the ball run smoothly through their own ranks and were also quite courageous on offense.
Strong saves on both sides
So it was no surprise that the Prussians also recorded the first dangerous shot on goal of the game. However, Sebastian Mrowca’s low shot was denied by Lions keeper David Richter. The visitors’ goalkeeper, who is actually only a substitute, would prove to be a tough guy as the game progressed. Just seconds after the first save, he also kept his box clean against Niko Koulis. The crossbar finally helped him with the follow-up shot.
In general it was a lively game, because the lions didn’t hide either. After about half an hour, Morris Schröter ran freely towards Maximilian Schulze Niehues. The keeper was able to get his leg out just in time.
Overall, the hosts had more of the game in the first half, but since Gerrit Wegkamp and Malik Batmaz also failed due to either the goalkeeper or a lack of accuracy, the break went goalless.
Zwarts shocked Münster after the break
The Münster team actually came out of it swinging. But then they lost the ball in attack, which took immediate revenge. Joel Zwarts made it 1-0 for 1860 after 54 minutes, completely unchallenged – this time Schulze Niehues had no chance.
It was an almost forgotten experience for the eagle bearers. They conceded their last deficit on matchday 5 against Waldhof Mannheim – they ultimately lost the game 1:3.
This time the home team tried to play further forward, but they found it increasingly difficult to find gaps in Munich’s defense. One seemed to open up in the 77th minute when Yassine Bouchama got the ball in the box. But the substitute midfielder was offside.
Insanity in the final minutes
The last ten minutes were pretty disjointed. The game was repeatedly interrupted due to minor fouls. In the end, however, the Prussians were able to reward themselves for their efforts. Simon Scherder headed into the right corner three minutes before the final whistle.
On the other hand, Albion Vrenezi failed from close range due to a strong defense from Schulze Nieheus and the Lions were also unable to take advantage of a free kick from the edge of the penalty area. So in the end it remained a fair 1:1. Münster continues next Saturday against league leaders Dynamo Dresden.
