A team will be there for the first time at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada in the coming year. A previous football dwarf has now made the greatest success of its history perfect.
The national team of Uzbekistan wrote football history. With a 0-0 with the United Arab Emirates, the team of coach Temur Kapadze secured the ticket for the 2026 World Cup for the first time.
In Abu Dhabi, the Uzbeken gave a point win to secure second place in their qualification group. This guarantees participation in the tournament in the coming summer, which will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada. A total of 48 nations take part in a World Cup finals for the first time, divided into four twelve groups.
Iran had already prevailed in the same qualification group before Uzbekistan. In addition to the three host countries USA, Mexico and Canada, world champions Argentina, New Zealand, Iran and Japan have also qualified for the tournament.
Australia is also about to move into the final round. A later goal from Aziz Beich secured the “Socceroos” a 1-0 win against Japan. With 16 points, they are three points and eight goals in front of Saudi Arabia, which in turn remained in the race with a 2-0 away win in Bahrain.
This time eight starting places are available to the Asian association due to the increase in the World Cup participant field. The German national team under national coach Julian Nagelsmann still has their qualifications ahead of them. The opponents in the group of four are Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg.
