Inter Milan celebrated an important victory in the fight for the Champions League places in Serie A. Ex-Dortmunder Henrikh Mkhitaryan (29th) and Argentinian world champion Lautaro Martinez (53rd) led the team around national player Robin Gosens to a 2-0 (1-0) win over US Lecce. With 50 points, Inter again overtook their competitor Lazio Roma for second place in the table.
The Italian champions AC Milan had already suffered a setback on Saturday (March 4th, 2023). The team around superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic lost 1: 2 (0: 0) after three wins at AC Fiorentina and remains fourth in the table with 47 points.
Long-time Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez gave the courageous Fiorentina the lead with a penalty kick (49′), former Frankfurt player Luka Jovic (87′) made the preliminary decision six minutes after coming on as a substitute. The goal from Vice World Champion Theo Hernandez (90 + 5) came too late from Milan’s point of view. Ibrahimovic came on as a substitute in the 66th minute and did not intervene decisively in the game.
High-flyer SSC Napoli is defeated by Lazio
Lazio defeated leaders SSC Napoli 1-0 (0-0) on Friday (March 3rd, 2023). It was the first point lost in the league since the 1-0 loss at Inter Milan on January 4 – Napoli had won the following eight games. Matias Vecino scored to win for Lazio (67th).
Nevertheless, the leader is clearly on course for the title: Napoli have won 21 of their 25 games, plus two draws and two defeats. Inter Milan, second in the table, could close the gap to 14 points with a win against US Lecce on Sunday (6pm CEST). Napoli has been waiting for its third Scudetto for 33 years.
Napoli have a 2-0 lead over Frankfurt in the Champions League
In the Champions League, Napoli are currently opponents of Eintracht Frankfurt. In the first leg in Frankfurt, Naples presented a 2-0 win. Eintracht faces a difficult task in the second leg on March 15 in Italy.
