Borussia Mönchengladbach have found a replacement for Jonas Hofmann, who surprisingly left for Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Franck Honorat comes to Borussia.
The 26-year-old offensive player comes from the first division club Stade Brest and has a contract until 2028. The fee should be between six and eight million euros.
Honorat could replace Hofmann “in terms of position and profile,” new coach Gerardo Seoane said on Sunday: “Jonas may have a few qualities that Franck doesn’t have – he has others for that.”
44 goal participations in 134 Ligue 1 games
Honorat was already on Borussia’s wish list a year ago, but a transfer failed at the time because of Brest’s veto. The Frenchman moved there from Saint-Etienne in 2020 for five million euros. In 134 games in Ligue 1 he scored 25 goals and provided 19 assists.
“Franck is a player who can play on both offensive flanks, who is fast, can score goals and also prepare,” said Borussia’s sporting director Roland Virkus: “We are delighted that he was determined to come to us despite other offers .”
First prominent summer access
Hofmann had left Borussia for Bayer Leverkusen. Marcus Thuram, Lars Stindl and Ramy Bensebaini, among others, had previously left. Honorat is the first prominent newcomer of the summer.
