Football Podcast | ‘Maurice Steijn’s football philosophy does not suit Ajax’ | Dutch football

The new top candidate for the trainer vacancy at Ajax is called Maurice Steijn, but how logical is that? Almere City is promoted to the Eredivisie for the first time. Manchester City has finally won that Champions League and 30 million euros for Orkun Kökçü. Enough or too little? Etienne Verhoeff discusses it with Mikos Gouka in a new AD Football podcast.

“You can ask yourself if he plays the football that belongs to Ajax. The answer is no, but he has worked at clubs where it is not very easy to make offensive machines”, Gouka responds to Ajax’s choice. ,,On the other hand, Arne Slot worked at Cambuur and AZ and you knew what the football philosophy was. With Steijn, the game starts from the reaction. He is very clever and good with players. They want to get Steijn based on his performance in the past and not because of his philosophy.’

This weekend, Gouka was still in Turkey for the Champions League final. He saw Manchester City take the treble. “I really enjoyed this final. I understand that the viewers at home were not sucked into the game, but in a stadium you experience it slightly differently. You could see the stress splashing out of Pep Guardiola’s ears. Inter’s game plan. Simone Inzaghi who almost entered the sixteen. I think City deserve to win the Champions League.’

And the transfer from Orkun Kökçü to Benfica is discussed with the Feyenoord watcher: ,,It is the biggest transfer ever for Feyenoord and the highest amount a Portuguese club pays for a player. If there had been an English club, the price would go up. That was out of the question. And in addition, Benfica managed to convince Kökçü.”
