Football Podcast | ‘Even Van Gaal or Guardiola could not do well at Ajax now’ | Sports podcasts

A cracker in England tonight between Manchester City and Arsenal. The crisis in Amsterdam that continues. The success of the youth of AZ and small clubs uniting in a lobby club. In the new AD Football podcast, Etienne Verhoeff discusses it with Maarten Wijffels.

History was written by AZ under 19 by winning the UEFA Youth League as the first Dutch club. What does that say about AZ’s youth academy? Wijffels: ,,The group that plays now, of which Wouter Goes has gone through the entire ten-year process. The question now is whether that will result in a player for Real Madrid in a few years’ time, but it is certainly good from AZ. It was said here and there that the Alkmaarders played with the oldest team, but the Real Madrid players were older on average.”

In Amsterdam they are currently queuing up to tell them that the DNA is out of the club. And Edwin van der Sar is blamed. In that battle, meanwhile, a trainer for next season must also be looked at. ,,No one trainer can do well at Ajax at the moment. Nor Van Gaal or Guardiola. Even then there would be whining if Ajax didn’t win or if they didn’t play good enough football. Nothing is good right now.”

And Wijffels was with a new lobby group of clubs in Europe. “The biggest lobby club in European football was launched this week in Brussels. More than 1400 smaller clubs have united in this, because UEFA and the big clubs now mainly decide on football matters. There were numerous clubs from all over Europe, except from the Netherlands. Comments were made about that by the other clubs.”
