The football players of FC Barcelona are close to qualifying for the final of the Champions League. The unapproachable leader of Spain was in Camp Nou for no fewer than 91,648 spectators with 5-1 much too strong for VfL Wolfsburg, where Jill Roord was accurate.
Never before have so many fans attended a women’s football match.
Goals
Halfway through the game it was already 4-0. Aitana Bonmatí gave Barça the lead after 3 minutes and Caroline Hansen scored the second goal in the 11th minute. Jennifer Hermoso and Alexia Putellas also scored for the home team in the first half. In the 72nd minute, Orange international Roord did something back, but Puttelas made her second of the evening from a penalty just before time.
Janssen and Wilms
Roord was replaced fifteen minutes before the end and Dominique Janssen played the entire match for the German formation. Lynn Wilms, Joëlle Smits and Shanice van de Sanden did not play for Wolfsburg.
Lieke Martens
Lieke Martens was missing at FC Barcelona because she was injured again. She is hindered by a hamstring injury and will be sidelined for at least four weeks.
The return in Germany is on Saturday 30 April.
French get-together
The other semi-final will be between Olympique Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain. The first leg is on Sunday.
