Football nostalgia, basketball, Crocs and Lego bricks will shape 2022

The year is not slowly coming to an end, but which products and brands will dominate the resale market in 2022? The “Big Facts Report” published on Wednesday by the StockX resale platform deals with this question. The report compares searches and sales increases for different products on the platform with last year’s figures and reveals which items set records this year. FashionUnited has summarized the results for you.

Sports and games: The favorites of the year

The upcoming soccer World Cup may be controversial, but the Adidas Samba sneaker, which was originally designed for the soccer field, is very popular. Sales of the Adidas shoe increased by 485 percent compared to the previous year. In addition to football, basketball and the associated footwear are also in demand. The Nike model Jordan 2 increased by a full 1000 percent. When it comes to sportiness, Crocs can’t necessarily keep up, but the Crocs by designer Salehe Bembury, who has also worked with Kanye “Ye” West and Donatella Versace, have achieved total profits of more than three million US dollars and are among the most popular shoes of the year. But not only shoes made it onto the list of the most popular products on the resale platform. Luxury watchmaker Omega and Swiss watchmaker Swatch’s collaboration, the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch, has brought in over $14 million in profits over the past 12 months, while trade in toy retailer Lego’s products is up 355 percent year-on-year.

These brands, models and names dominate searches

Who or what was most searched for on StockX? To answer this question, the searches of the third quarter of 2021 were compared to this year’s. The resulting list is diverse, with fashion brands Jacquemus (+945 percent) and Loewe (+184 percent) meeting sportswear brand Lululemon (+1.734 percent) and outdoor label Arc’teryx (+186 percent). The so-called Gorpcore trend could be responsible for the latter brand, as well as the increased demand for sports and outdoor items from Salomon (+228 percent). The TikTok phenomenon also appears to be influencing searches, with running shoe brand Hoka (+347%) and Kim Kardashian’s shapewear label Skims (+330%) also making the ranking. The streetwear labels Sp5der (+968 percent), Gallery Dept (+282 percent) and Online Ceramics (+166 percent) are also represented. The brands Swatch (+584 percent) and Lego (+76 percent), mentioned previously as the most popular products, also make it onto the list.

The shoe models were dominated by basketball player LeMelo Ball’s signature model, the Puma MB.01 (+ 6008 percent), and searches for the player himself increased by 1660 percent, leaving behind designer Tom Sachs (+1008 percent) and basketball player Trae Young (+213 percent) and Stephen Curry (+141 percent) far behind. New Balance made it onto the list of most wanted shoes with three models, the 650 (+807 percent), the 550 (+621 percent) and the 2002R (+310 percent). The retro sneaker Asics Gel Kayano 14 (+689 percent), the Adidas Samba model (+736 percent) and the Gazelle model (+121 percent), which the Herzogenaurach-based sports goods manufacturer redesigned this year as a collaboration with Gucci, complete the List. The only shoe model that is not a sneaker comes from Germany, because the Boston model from Birkenstock was searched for 741 percent more this year than in the previous year.
