FC Augsburg surprisingly presents Jess Thorup as Enrico Maaßen’s successor. The 53-year-old, most recently at FC Copenhagen, signed a contract until 2025, according to the club’s announcement.
FC Augsburg has found a successor for Enrico Maaßen: The Dane Jess Thorup will be officially introduced on Monday and will be on the pitch with the Bundesliga club for the first time on Tuesday as part of a public training session with the team – and thus also the preparation for the game at 1 . Internationally experienced trainer found
A club statement said that FC Augsburg had managed to hire an internationally experienced coach who fully identified with the path taken by the FCA. The 53-year-old, who has already worked successfully with FC Midtjylland, KAA Gent, FC Copenhagen and the Danish U20 and U21 national teams, among others, will receive a contract with FCA until June 30, 2025.
Experience also in German-speaking Area
Thorup was also active as a player in Germany at KFC Uerdingen and at FC Tirol in Austria in German-speaking countries. “The club and the team have a lot of potential and it is a great pleasure for me to work in the Bundesliga and to advance FC Augsburg together,” says Thorup.
Previous successes
The 53-year-old was Danish champion with FC Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen. He also won the Danish Cup competition once with Esbjerg fB and was voted Coach of the Year 2013 in Denmark.
