FC Villarreal lost 2-0 at Panathinaikos in Athens on Thursday (September 21st, 2023). In Bayer Leverkusen’s group, which celebrated a clear opening win against BK Häcken, Qarabag Agdam from Azerbaijan won 1-0 against Norwegian club Molde FK

The Linzer ASK took the lead against Liverpool FC with a remarkable goal from Florian Flecker (14th) and defended their lead until the break. After the substitution, Liverpool needed a controversial penalty to equalize through Darwin Núñez (56th). Luis Díaz (63′) and substitute Mohamed Salah (88′) ensured a successful start for coach Jürgen Klopp’s team with further goals.

Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen lived up to their role as favorites and began the group phase with a 4-0 win against Swedish representatives BK Häcken. In the other game, Qarabag Agdam picked up three points thanks to a 1-0 win against FK Molde. Leandro Andrade scored the decisive goal in the 55th minute.
