Emma Hayes from Chelsea FC will be the US women’s national soccer coach in the summer of 2024 – a supposedly lucrative job.
The US Soccer Federation says it has made Emma Hayes the highest-paid soccer coach in the world. The 47-year-old Englishwoman will finish the season at Chelsea FC and then take over the USA women’s national team two months before the Olympic Games in Paris, the association announced on Tuesday.
How high Hayes’ salary will actually be remained unclear. Until they take over, Twila Kilgore will remain in charge as an interim solution. Kilgore will then remain with the team as an assistant coach.
“It is a great honor to have the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in the history of global football,” Hayes said. She has long dreamed of being able to coach the US women. Her impending engagement had been reported in the US media for weeks.
Hayes collects titles with Chelsea
Hayes has coached Chelsea FC women since 2012 and has led them to, among other things, six championships and five FA Cup victories. In 2021 she was named Coach of the Year by the world association FIFA.
After the disappointing World Cup in the summer, in which the US soccer players were eliminated in the round of 16, coach Vlatko Andonovski resigned.
