The corner kick for the Wolves brings nothing, but it comes to counterattack for Turbine. Karen Holmgaard is sent and can run towards goal almost unchallenged. However, the defensive specialist leaves the courage and above all the speed. Hendrichs sprints back and just manages to block with a slide tackle.

Barth plays a risky, flat vertical pass in the game build-up, which immediately gets stuck in Wolfsburg’s midfield. Lattwein tries to stage Waßmuth with a long ball, but the pass is too steep for her.

It’s called trembling for Turbine for the first time. Tabea Waßmuth moves towards the penalty area at high speed and is fouled by Homgaard. Rauch grabs the leather, shoots the free kick from 20 meters, half-right position, but in the middle of the wall. Much more was possible there.

The stage is set for the 22 players who will start the fight for the cup success in a few minutes. The teams last met in 2015 in the cup final. Back then, the Wolfsburg women won 3-0 and started the unprecedented winning streak that continues to this day. Can Turbine stop this run today? The players step onto the lawn at this moment. Around 20,000 spectators are in the Rhein-Energie-Stadion and ensure the right atmosphere.

Potsdam coach Sofian Chahed also makes three changes compared to the 5-0 defeat at Bayern Munich on the last Bundesliga matchday. One change concerns the goal that Anna Wellmann will guard instead of Vanessa Fischer. Luca Graf makes way for Karen Holmgaard in defence. In addition, the Austrian Maria Plattner replaces Isabel Kerschowski in the starting XI. The Potsdam team also have to do without top scorer Selina Cerci, who had to end the season prematurely due to a cruciate ligament injury.

16:04

Wolves coach Tommy Stroot has made three changes since the last Bundesliga game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (7-1). Right-back Joelle Wedemeyer and 113-time international Alexandra Popp are only on the bench. Attacker Anna Blass, who will leave VfL, is not in the squad. New in the starting XI are Lynn right-back Lynn Wilms, midfielder Felicitas Rauch and striker Jill Roord.

After an actually good season, Turbine Potsdam weakened in the final sprint and lost a place in the Champions League. The defeats against Eintracht Frankfurt (0:2) and Bayern Munich (0:5) caused Turbine to drop from third to fourth place. What was particularly frightening, however, was how little chance the team coached by Sofian Chahed had in Munich, considering that Wolfsburg are at least on par with Bayern. In the current cup competition, 1. FFC beat Hannover 96 (5-1), 1. FC Köln (2-0), Henstedt-Ulzburg (7-0) and defeated Leverkusen on penalties. The big plus for the women from Potsdam today is that you have absolutely nothing to lose. Nevertheless, everything has to be right for a win today.

15:46

VfL Wolfsburg goes into the final game as the clear favorite. The reigning German champions want to continue their fantastic series and bring the trophy to the VW city for the eighth time in a row. The conditions for this are magnificent. At national level, the currently best team in Germany won every game in the 2022 calendar year. In the last three Bundesliga games alone, the VfL women scored 22 goals. In addition, both duels with Potsdam this season were won 3-0. On the way to the final, the team defeated MSV Duisburg (3:1), SC Freiburg (3:0) and SC Sand (7:0). In the semi-finals, FC Bayern (3-1) was eliminated as the only team that was evenly matched in terms of gameplay. On paper, Wolfsburg can only beat itself today.
