Football DFB Cup: Nuremberg vs. Düsseldorf – live ticker – round of 16 – 2022/2023

  • 25

    18:28

After a throw-in by Enrico Valentini on the right, Christoph Daferner shields the ball well in the box and Lino Tempelmann serves it. From a half-right position, he throws the ball past the box to the left.

  • 22

    18:26

Thus, the first corner of this game follows. After the cross from the left, there is no way for Christoph Klarer and Tim Oberdorf to get through. The Nuremberg clear without effort.

  • 21

    18:24

For the first time, the Düsseldorfers get an attack played to the end. This runs to the left with Emmanuel Iyoha. In the sixteen, Rouwen Hennings keeps track of things and fits back to the onrushing Marcel Sobottka. His right-footed shot from a central 18 meters is easily deflected by Fabian Nürnberger and flies past the goal to the left.

  • 18

    18:21

Almost imperceptibly, Fortuna catches up in terms of game shares. So that happens in a rather unspectacular way, because the guests don’t go about their work purposefully at all.

  • 16

    18:19

After that, the tempo slows down again. Nuremberg leads the ball, Dusseldorf is waiting. Only from the middle line do the Rhinelanders devote themselves more intensively to their opponents.

  • 14

    18:17

Then there’s some momentum. The hosts attack on the right. Lino Tempelmann’s high cross finds Jens Castrop’s skull in the penalty area. He doesn’t get enough pressure behind his header, which Florian Kastenmeier catches effortlessly.

  • 13.

    18:16

The game still doesn’t want to pick up speed. A certain amount of caution is valued on both sides. The fear of falling behind seems great.

  • 11.

    18:14

Now the guests try a little more extensively for the ball, sometimes looking in the opponent’s half. However, there is no further gain in space. Again and again, Fortuna turns away, plays in the back.

  • 9.

    18:12

Shortly thereafter, Christoph Daferner is sent over to the right by Enrico Valentini, but his right-footed shot from an unfavorable angle in the penalty area doesn’t find his way into the box. The offside whistle sounds anyway.

  • 8th.

    18:11

So it’s another free kick from Johannes Geis that paves the way into the box. And there Florian Flick is again looking for a degree in a very promising position. But this right-footed shot is also blocked by Christoph Klarer.

  • 6.

    18:09

So the hosts have more of the game overall. However, the right train to the goal still does not come in. The way to the sixteen is increasingly obstructed.

  • 4.

    18:07

Dusseldorf is more concerned with its own possession of the ball to bring in peace first. The Rhinelanders are still in the identification phase. And when things need to be done quickly, it promptly leads to a bad pass.

  • 2.

    18:05

At first, Nuremberg presented itself as committed. A free kick from Johannes Geis gets the Middle Franconia in the sixteen. But there is no getting through there – not even for Florian Flick’s shot attempt.

    18:02

With temperatures around freezing point, a good 25,000 spectators gathered in the Max Morlock Stadium. Due to the clear sky no precipitation is expected. The lawn thus offers the proper basis for a hopefully entertaining game.

  • 17:50

In the first half of the current two-league season, Fortuna lost 1-0 at home to Nuremberg in mid-October. This was the third win in a row against Düsseldorf for the Franks. The last home game also went to FCN in August 2021 (2-0). The last partial success of the Rhinelanders in the Max Morlock Stadium dates back to November 2020 (1: 1). Fortuna last won here in May 2018 (2:3). The club has won all of the four cup games that have taken place in Nuremberg – most recently in October 2015 with 5:1.

  • 17:42

In the cup, on the other hand, the club has not conceded a goal this season, beating the regional league team 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn (2-0) and third-league team Waldhof Mannheim (1-0). As a four-time cup winner, FCN has already achieved a number of merits in the past. The last title dates back to 2007. While Nürnberg was in a total of six finals, Fortuna made it seven times. However, the Rhinelanders were only successful in the finals in 1979 and 1980. In the current competition, they were challenged twice abroad, defeating regional league club Kickers Offenbach (4:1) and second division competitor Jahn Regensburg (3:0).

  • 17:33

Two league rivals are fighting for a place in the quarterfinals. With a view to the current second division table, however, the FCN have other concerns. When you are sixteenth, you are on the relegation place and struggling to stay up in the league. On the other hand, the sixth from Düsseldorf seems to have a relaxed rest of the season. The connection to the front has been lost a bit. In view of the fact that they are seven points behind in third place, it would have to be a phenomenal series to be able to get a taste of up there again. Fortuna has recently suffered two defeats away from home – 0:2 in Hanover and 1:4 in Paderborn. The last win abroad came at the end of October in Kiel (2:1). Nuremberg is still without a win or a goal in this calendar year. Two 0-1 defeats against St. Pauli and in Fürth are on record. The Middle Franconia scored their last three before the World Cup break in mid-November at this point against Paderborn (2:1).

  • 17:22

Compared to the 1-0 defeat in the Franconian derby at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Markus Weinzierl made three changes. Instead of Florian Hübner, Mats Møller Dæhli and Jermain Nischalke, who will all take a seat on the bench, Enrico Valentini, Johannes Geis and Christoph Daferner will be in the Nuremberg starting XI. There are five impressive changes on the part of the guests after the 1: 4 in Paderborn. Michał Karbownik (muscular problems) and Matthias Zimmermann (torn muscle fiber in the buttocks) are unavailable due to injuries. Jordy de Wijs, Jorrit Hendrix and Kristoffer Peterson find themselves on the bench. Daniel Thioune ordered Christoph Klarer, Tim Oberdorf, Marcel Sobottka, Dawid Kownacki and Emmanuel Iyoha into Düsseldorf’s starting line-up. Jona Niemiec, who otherwise works with the second team in the Regionalliga West, is part of Fortuna’s professional squad for the first time.

  • 17:10
