football | DFB Cup: home right exchange: Ottensen against RB in Leipzig?

Status: 08/23/2022 10:42 p.m

After an attack on the lawn there, it was more than questionable whether the DFB Cup game between Teutonia Ottensen and RB Leipzig could be played in Dessau as originally planned. Now it seems certain that the game in Leipzig will increase.

RB Leipzig’s DFB Cup game against Hamburg’s regional league club Teutonia Ottensen is apparently set to take place in Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena. This is reported by the “Leipziger Volkszeitung” on Tuesday evening. Accordingly, the German Football Association (DFB) agreed to an exchange of home rights for the game on August 30th. According to the newspaper, the association is to officially announce the decision on Wednesday.

Difficult stadium search for Teutonia

As an amateur club, the fourth division team has home rights against the defending champions in the DFB Cup. Teutonia was not allowed to use their own stadium because of the artificial turf, the second division FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV did not want to make their arenas available for a game against RB Leipzig. The move to Dessau, almost 400 kilometers away, was therefore to take place. More than 7,000 tickets have already been sold.

Place in Dessau contaminated

After contamination of the lawn in Dessau, however, the staging had become questionable. Unknown people had dumped an apparently toxic substance on the pitch in the Paul Greifzu Stadium, and the lawn collapsed in places. Both penalty areas and the center circle are affected. The police are investigating property damage.

Home right swap as a last resort

In the course of Tuesday, everyone involved was looking for a solution. The plan to get the damaged turf playable again so that the game could still be played in Dessau apparently didn’t work out.
