Broken windows in the stands, large holes in the goal nets, torn cables and litter everywhere, including office chairs. Football club CEC in Emmer-Compascuum is completely ready. “If it continues like this, we will have to think about camera surveillance and fencing.”
The artificial grass field of the football club on the Kijlweg has only just been installed, the chairman continues. “This field was completed more than a year ago during the renovation of the sports park. Because our site has a fairly open character, groups of young people regularly come here to kick a ball. We don’t find that a problem, as long as they keep things intact.”
However, the latter is often not the case. “The destruction started a year ago, just after the renovation was completed. Then it was power cables near the changing rooms that were stolen.”
However, it didn’t stop there. “Soon afterwards we saw the first holes in the newly installed football goals on the artificial grass field. There are now quite a few tie-wraps in the goals to keep things together. Patchwork. If things continue like this, we will have to move on. We will eventually have to install completely new nets, but that costs money.”
