The Swedes’ squad includes familiar faces from the Bundesliga and international tournaments: striker Schough leads her team onto the field as captain and is known from her time at FC Bayern. Knaak, a German who has already laced up her football boots for SC Freiburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, also plays in midfield. Caroline Seger is ending her career and is back home after working in France – she takes a seat on the bench.

Let’s first look at the hosts: FC Rosengard are 13-time champions and also won the cup six times. The Swedes are quite experienced on the European stage, but will probably not be in the Champions League next season because, unlike in Germany, the season there ended last weekend and Rosengard was unable to qualify for the international competition . The team would only be included in the field if they won the title – but this seems rather unlikely given the great competition.

The time has finally come: Eintracht Frankfurt is represented in European women’s football for the first time! 1. FFC Frankfurt has a long tradition in this competition and has won the Women’s Champions League a total of four times – most recently in 2015. After the merger with the Bundesliga club, this is Eintracht’s first participation after failing to qualify last year.
