Working with young people is both a curse and a blessing
Salzburg is considered a talent factory. The club that is part of the Red Bull-Imperium has always been a stepping stone for young players in recent years. Among others, Sadio Mané from FC played Liverpool and Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in Salzburg. The outstanding youth work is both a curse and a blessing. The club keeps losing its best players to international competition.
Adeyemi to Borussia Dortmund?
With Karim Adeyemi, the next top talent is already in the starting blocks. The 20-year-old Germany international leads the scorer list in Austria with 14 goals. Adeyemi has already had three successes in the Champions League and is thus Salzburg’s top scorer together with the Swiss Noah Okafor. Okafor is just 21 years old. In general, Salzburg is the youngest team of all participants in the Champions League.
Adeyemi is said to be about to move to the German Bundesliga – he is probably drawn to Borussia Dortmund. The attacker’s contract with the Austrians runs until the summer of 2024, and a transfer fee of around 30 million euros is under discussion. Adeyemi should at BVB replace Haaland, who is willing to emigrate. Incidentally, the 20-year-old was born in Munich and played for Bayern Munich for two years as a youth. At that time, however, he could not assert himself there.
Jaissle new star in the Salzburg coaching sky
Just like with coach Matthias Jaissle. The 33-year-old was a professional at Hoffenheim and is the youngest coach in the current Champions League season. When Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann was promoted to assistant coach at TSG in early 2013, Jaissle was still a player in the squad.
Salzburg is also the ideal springboard for coaches: Niko Kovac, Marco Rose, Roger Schmidt, Oliver Glasner, Adi Hütter and even national coach Hansi Flick – they were all active in Salzburg during their careers. So it may be that not only Adeyemi, but also Jaissle will soon appear in the Bundesliga.
