French double whammy
The Gladbacher came into the encounter with a lot of energy. Florian Neuhaus could have made it 1-0 after less than 90 seconds, but was blocked by Sebastian Griesbeck. Shortly afterwards, Adi Hütter’s eleven had more opportunities, and Fürth could hardly free themselves. Thuram’s 1-0 was logical, Plea found Thuram at just the right moment with a through ball – the rest was a matter of form.
A few minutes later, Timothy Tillman hit Gladbach’s Stefan Lainer on the foot and Tobias Stieler finally decided on a penalty after looking at the video images for a long time. Plea didn’t convert it hard, but placed it in the bottom right corner.
In the minutes before the change of sides, the hosts had a slightly better phase, Griesbeck just missed the goal with a header (31st), further shots provided at least a little danger for Yann Sommer in the Borussia goal.
