Coach Domenico Tedesco has rejected an early contract extension with Bundesliga club and DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig. This is reported by “Kicker” and “Bild” newspaper on Thursday (06/30/2022). “The club approached me,” the 36-year-old is quoted as saying in “Kicker”. “Nevertheless, I asked for the topic to be pushed back a little.”
“A bad experience at Schalke”
As the reason for his hesitation, Tedesco cites wrong decisions when he was with Schalke 04, where he was under contract between July 2017 and March 2019: “I had a bad experience at Schalke, so I extended after a very good first year in the summer preparation and we didn’t start the season well.” Now he wants to wait until the World Cup break in November/December before talking about a contract extension. “I believe and hope that the club has understood that.”

Tedesco also commented on the size of the team in “Kicker”. “He’s still a bit big,” Tedesco said of the squad. The coach did not reveal who should leave the club. So far, six departures have been confirmed.

It also seems possible that some players who were recently loaned out will get a second chance under Tedesco. However, there is no return to Leipzig for the former RB attacker Oliver Burke. The centre-forward, who made 26 appearances for RB Leipzig (25 x Bundesliga, 1 x Pokal) and scored one goal in 2016/17, returns to the Bundesliga nonetheless.
