Football Bundesliga: Schalke vs. Dortmund – live ticker – 24th matchday – 2022/2023

  • 63

    19:51

Schalke are awarded a free kick on the left wing, but Zalazar pulls it too high onto the back post. Meyer correctly anticipates the trajectory and safely plucks the leather out of the air.

  • 60

    19:48

    Raphael Guerreiro

Tooor for Borussia Dortmund, 1:2 by Raphaël Guerreiro

For 15 minutes, Schalke completely tightens the center, but there is hardly any space, and BVB immediately punishes it rigorously and increases to 2:1. Bynoe-Gittens opens the gap with a clever run and Can puts the ball through the open lane into Guerrero’s barrel. His dry left-footed shot from 13 yards on the left fits perfectly into the crease in the far corner. Nothing to do for ferryman.

  • 56

    19:45

Borussia works out another corner, but again brings nothing at all. The Guerrero cross is way too short. Brunner can clear before the first post with his head.

  • 55

    19:43

    Cedric Bruner

Yellow card for Cédric Brunner (FC Schalke 04)

Brunner tries to separate Bynoe-Gittens from the ball in a tackle, but he pulls the ball back in time and promptly gets the trick on the ankle. This brings Brunner the first yellow card of the derby.

  • 53

    19:41

The goal gave the Royal Blues a boost. The Gelsenkirchen follow and work out another corner. However, Král is unable to convert Zalazar’s dead ball. From eleven meters he gets no precision in the header.

  • 50

    19:38

    Marius Bülter

Tooor for FC Schalke 04, 1: 1 by Marius Bülter

Dortmund remains very passive and after Bellingham lost the ball in the center, Schalke now equalises. Three stations are enough before Frey can refuel on the right wing. The cross pass arrives in an exemplary manner at the second post in Bülter’s run, who only has to push the ball over the line to make it 1-1. Well played!

  • 49

    19:38

slow start. BVB looks relatively passively in the first moments of the second round to see whether more offensive efforts are coming from S04. The miners don’t really act briskly even after the change of sides.

  • 46

    19:34

Both teams return to the field unchanged. It continues in the Veltins Arena.

    19:19

    Mid-term conclusion:
Dortmund leads 1-0 at the break in the 100th Bundesliga Revierderby at Schalke. The very tactical match first had to survive a long sampling phase, in which the Royal Blues were able to keep their arch-rivals far away from their own goal time and time again with high and aggressive pressing. Otherwise, however, the Gelsenkircheners only lurked for mistakes made by the guests. The plan almost worked when Zalazar Hummels took the ball and carelessly missed the huge opportunity to take the lead in a one-on-one against Meyer (25′). Exactly this scene was also the wake-up call for Borussia, which from then on increasingly found gaps and played out several deals. The lead that Schlotterbeck scored with a long-range shot from the second row (38′) was the logical consequence. The hosts, in particular, have to do more offensively.

  • 44

    19:15

And once again BVB: Malen takes Wolf with a hoe and then runs behind at a lot of speed. He gets the ball back in the Schalke penalty area, but Yoshida blocks the low right-footed shot to the far corner, which then brings nothing further. Ferryman resolutely punches away the standard that Wolf kicked too close to the goal.

  • 41

    19:12

The black and yellow are now following up against the somewhat dismayed royal blue. Malen brings the side shift to Bellingham, who enters the box on the left and then pulls powerfully to the short corner. Again ferryman saves by foot defense.

  • 38

    19:08

    Nico Schlotterbeck

Tooor for Borussia Dortmund, 0:1 by Nico Schlotterbeck

The pass stations are once again blocked, but there is a little too much space in the center, which is why Schlotterbeck simply takes a dry shot from 20 meters and scores to make it 1-0. The touchdown doesn’t even come that precisely to the right corner, but Fährmann’s view is blocked with this concealed shot, so that Schalke’s support, which has been so strong up to now, doesn’t look really happy with this goal. While there’s probably little he can do, the shot doesn’t look untenable by any means.

  • 37

    19:08

Dortmund works out another goal, but Ferryman is also on the spot with a strong foot defense when Wolf shoots low from twelve meters inside the right position.

  • 36

    19:07

Again and again, FC Schalke manages to take the wind out of BVB’s sails with aggressive pressing. It’s very efficient, but it robs the derby of the pace at times.

  • 33

    19:04

Marius Bülter picks up speed on the left wing, but Mats Hummels clears the ball with a perfectly timed tackle before there is even a hint of danger. Well defended.

  • 30

    19:01

Good chance for Dortmund! With two vertical passes, BVB now gets behind the chain. Malen takes the ball artistically and spins between Jenz and Král after a pass from Bellingham. The right-footed shot from nine meters then comes too centrally to the ferryman, who gets his arms raised and prevents the goal.

  • 28

    18:59

Malen crosses from the right wing into the center and Jenz’s attempt to clear turns into such a nasty ricochet that the ball hits the corner almost unstoppable for Fährmann. In any case, not much is missing, but in the end the ball goes over it. The subsequent Guerrero corner then kicked weakly again and found no addressee.

  • 25

    18:56

Big chance Schalke! Craziness! That must be the 1:0 for S04! Hummels is played nervously by Schlotterbeck and lets Zalazar steal the ball from his foot. Zalazar can run towards Meyer alone, who stands for a long time. The Schalke player finally has to take a corner from a half-right position from eleven meters and ends well over the crossbar.

  • 24

    18:55

Dortmund are awarded a free kick from 24 meters after a foul on Can, but Guerrero’s left-footed shot is cleared by Bülter with a header to the corner. Guerrero also takes over this standard, but the weak cross starves before the first post in the Schalke defense.

  • 21

    18:53

Borussia are pulling back a bit and trying to lure Schalke out of their reserve a bit. However, the hosts act very timidly in the game structure and with minimal risk. Accordingly, the game ripples along with many cross and back passes on the Schalke side.

  • 18

    18:50

Hummels opens the game with a strong pass from deep that goes perfectly into Guerrero’s run. However, the Portuguese fails from twelve meters in the right-hand position due to a strong fist defense by Fährmann.

  • 17

    18:49

When under pressure, Malen can still play the ball into the five-meter box from the right wing, but Haller cannot hold his own against two opponents. Concentrated miners even prevent the corner kick.

  • 15

    18:46

A quarter of an hour has passed. The Royal Blues have not yet set any offensive accents, but they are extremely poisonous and literally go into high pressing with a knife between their teeth. It is obviously difficult for BVB to free themselves playfully and to raise their own game.

  • 12.

    18:43

Bynoe-Gittens passes Brunner and then just grabs it from the left corner of the penalty area. However, Yoshida is still in the way and blocks with a head to the corner, which Wolf pulls too close to the goal. Fährmann resolutely clarifies and thus even initiates a counterattack, in which Hummels then prevents the direct counterattack with a tackle against Zalazar.

  • 10

    18:41

Can wins the ball in his own penalty area, but the black and yellow build-up is still too static. Two cross passes are enough for the entire Schalke team to be behind the ball again. Ultimately, Ryerson tries the half-high through ball, which is unattainable for Haller and ends up in goal.

  • 8th.

    18:40

The sampling phase is still running in the Veltins Arena. Schalke makes it difficult for their archrival to find playful solutions with very aggressive pressing. The Royal Blues also effectively condense the center. The attitude is right.

  • 5.

    18:36

The first conclusion of the game belongs to BVB. In the crowded Schalke penalty area, Haller bounces for Ryerson, who has no clear shot from eleven meters. The attempt at the right corner then rushes a good meter past the Knappen box. Kick off S04.

  • 4.

    18:35

Cautious start in the district derby. Both teams are still tactical and calmly take a look at the opponent’s tactical formation. The recently very defensive guests meanwhile press remarkably high.

  • 1.

    18:31

The ball is rolling in the packed Veltins Arena. The hosts play in blue and white. The guests in black and yellow. Here we go.

    game start

  • 18:03

Incidentally, the two best defenses of the second half of the season also face each other in this district derby. Borussia Dortmund only conceded three goals in the six games in the second half of the season. Schalke 04, on the other hand, only conceded a single goal in six league games. For comparison: In the first half of the season, the Knappen still had the weakest defense in the entire Bundesliga with 41 goals.

  • 17:57

Borussia Dortmund was able to win the first eight Bundesliga games in a calendar year for the first time in the club’s history. BVB has thus completely closed the gap to Bayern and was only in second place at the beginning of the match day because of the worse goal difference. In the meantime, however, the Reds have pulled away again after their 5:3 win against Augsburg. The black and yellow need the derby win and thus the ninth three in a row to stay close to the German record champions.

  • 17:50

Borussia Dortmund lost the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Chelsea 0-2 during the week. Edin Terzić made four changes after the defeat at Stamford Bridge: Salih Özcan, Niklas Süle (both on the bench), Julian Brandt (torn muscle) and Marco Reus (flu) are replaced by Mats Hummels, Donyell Malen, Julian Ryerson and Jamie Bynoe- Gittens.

  • 17:46

A derby was already on the program for Schalke last weekend. The Gelsenkirchen team celebrated a 2-0 away win in Bochum. Thomas Reis changed his starting lineup in only one position compared to this game: Mehmet-Can Aydın is preferred to Éder Balanta (bench).

  • 17:41

With Schalke and Dortmund, not only are there two arch-rivals, but also the only two teams that haven’t lost a single league game in the second half of the 2022/23 season. While Dortmund leads the second half of the table with six wins, Schalke is seventh in the second half of the table with ten out of a possible 18 points (two wins, four draws). As a result, the Royal Blues were not in 18th place in the table for the first time since the tenth matchday.

  • 17:35

It is the 100th district derby that takes place as part of the Bundesliga. BVB has been unbeaten in five duels with S04 (four wins, one draw) and have not conceded a goal in any of these five derbies. Overall, Schalke have been waiting for another goal against the black and yellow for 454 minutes of the game.

  • 17:30

Good evening and welcome from the Veltins Arena. This is where FC Schalke 04 host Borussia Dortmund at 6:30 p.m. tonight as part of the 24th match day of the Bundesliga.
