After a short dry spell, SC Freiburg has once again set its sights on the top spots in the Bundesliga with a simple 2-0 (1-0) win against FC Augsburg.
Vincenzo Grifo (5th) with a penalty kick and defender Philipp Lienhart with a header after a Grifo corner (56th). scored the goals for Breisgauer’s third win of the season on Sunday (October 1st, 2023). Ten points mean SC are in eighth place after six match days. Augsburg is in 14th place with five points.
Grifo certainly transforms
The game’s compass was set with the first attack of the game: with a clumsy tackle, Iago caused a penalty against Freiburg’s Roland Sallai, which Grifo converted in his usual confident manner.
When Freiburg survived a moment of shock when goalkeeper Noah Atubolu had to correct a defense error in a one-on-one against Philipp Tietz (9th), the excitement in the first half was over. Both teams couldn’t do more than fight over a long period of time.
Augsburg is far too harmless
This continued in the second 45 minutes. Freiburg controlled the game with better play equipment. Augsburg hardly managed anything offensively. When Lienhart then headed a Grifo corner into the goal at the first post to make it 2-0, the game was over.
The guests tried to get more activity towards the SC goal, but the FCA couldn’t get more than an offside goal shortly before the end from Sven Michel (85th).
