Leipzig continued to press and tried to score a second goal. Cologne still didn’t really get into the game and could only react instead of acting. And there wasn’t much going on offensively anyway, modeste was sorely missed.
Double strike brings the decision
Leipzig also had control of the game in the second round and were rewarded for it quite quickly. Olmo took a dry shot from 20 meters just under a quarter of an hour after the restart – the ball hit the bottom left of the goal and was unstoppable for Cologne goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe.
Then it was three minutes later Angelino on the spot. After a counterattack, Olmo served him, the Spaniard only had to convert his compatriot’s pass and the game was decided. The overwhelmed Cologne team had nothing to counter that evening except for Lemperle’s consolation goal, which came too late.

Leipzig will now play at Hertha on Sunday (February 20th, 2022) at 7.30 p.m BSC. Cologne welcomes Eintracht Frankfurt at 6:30 p.m. the day before.
