Frankfurt got off to a great start in front of 47,500 spectators and put the bottom of the table under pressure from the start. However, it didn’t take long before Fürth was able to free itself from the Hessians’ pressing.
Trapp saves against Hrgota
The game association then had the first big chance of the game. Fürth captain Branimir Hrgota came free in front of Kevin Trapp after a great pass from Jetro Willems (17th). But the national keeper underlined his strong form of the last few weeks and made a worthwhile save.
As a result, the Frankfurters got into the game better and had significantly more game shares. Shortly before the break, coach Oliver Glasner’s team missed the lead several times. But neither a long-range shot from Knauff (41′) nor a double chance from Jesper Lindström (42′; 44′) found their way to the goal. Andreas Linde in the Fürther Tor showed a strong performance.
Fürth only on the defensive
After the break, the Frankfurters continued the good final phase of the first half. Ansger Knauff made a lot of speed on the right side and looked for the goal himself. But, like in the last Bundesliga game against Freiburg (0-0), the Fürth lined up their defenses and threw themselves into every shot attempt by Frankfurt. However, there was hardly any relief for the game association.
In the closing stages it was goalkeeper Linde again who kept Fürth in the game. Linde was able to fend off Gonçalo Paciência’s shot from 14 meters with a strong reaction.
The injury to Fürth’s Marco Meyerhöfer, who was seriously injured in a duel with Jens Hausge, caused a moment of shock. The game could only be continued after a long injury break.
Fürth has to play against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday (April 9th, 2022), Frankfurt plays against SC Freiburg the next day. But already on Thursday (April 7th, 2022) the Hessians will have a cracker in the Europa League against FC Barcelona.
