Gladbach takes the lead twice
Breel Embolo gave Gladbach the lead in the 17th minute: when Lars Stindl wanted to play the ball to the left, Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer intervened and involuntarily played the pass to Embolo, who finished free in front of the goal.
With a bit of luck, Leipzig’s Joško Gvardiol escaped a yellow-red card in the first half and was substituted by coach Tedesco (33′). “You have a latent danger of being thrown off the pitch. We had to react early,” said Tedesco. A little later, Leipzig, which had been weak offensively, equalized: Marcel Halstenberg played the ball to André Silva, who passed the ball on to Christopher Nkunku. Nkunku hit the right corner of the penalty area with a right into the left corner (36′).
Leipzig seemed safer at first, but Gladbach took the lead again in injury time. Jonas Hofmann played Embolo in the middle circle, who prevailed against several opponents and in turn got the ball from Embolo. In a direct duel against Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, Hofmann converted confidently.
