Leverkusen took the lead through Patrick Schick (38th). Grischa Prömel meanwhile turned the game with two hits (45th, 49th), before Jonathan Tah equalized to 2-2 (83rd).
“A few mistakes too many”
Bayer’s coach Gerardo Seoane criticized: “The team lost the line in the second half, also because of the goal they conceded. One or two mistakes were then too many of us.” Union coach Urs Fischer said: “We were really lucky that we went into the break 1-1. The second half was courage, conviction and will. In the end we deserved the tie.”
