Status: 10.11.2022 10:41 a.m

Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus will miss another major tournament. An ankle injury prevented his nomination for the World Cup in Qatar.

A corresponding message from “Sky” was confirmed to the sports show on Thursday morning (10.11.2022) from the club. On Thursday afternoon, national coach Hansi Flick will announce the 26 players who will travel to Qatar for Germany for the World Cup. It was considered very likely that a healthy Reus would have been in the squad.

But the 33-year-old offensive player has been struggling with an ankle injury for weeks. Reus had to be replaced in mid-September in the district derby against Schalke during the first half. He was then used in the games at Union Berlin and against VfL Bochum, but Dortmund coach Edin Terzic then reported setbacks and pain.

For a few weeks now, it has been eagerly awaited which 26 players national coach Hansi Flick will call into the squad for the 2022 World Cup. He announces his decision at the press conference.

When BVB lost 2-0 in Wolfsburg on Tuesday (November 8th, 2022), Reus was missing from the squad due to injury.

Already missed three major tournaments

Reus was often plagued by injuries in his career. He therefore missed the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 and 2021 European Championships with the national team.

The end of the 2014 World Cup, where Germany later won the title, was particularly bitter for Reus. The 48-time national player (15 goals) was injured in the last friendly on the eve of his departure for Brazil.
