World Cup host Qatar will host the Asian Championship in 2023.
The Asian continental association AFC awarded the football tournament for the third time after 1988 and 2011 in the emirate, in which the World Cup will also take place from November 20th to December 18th, 2022.
South Korea and Indonesia get nothing
South Korea, co-host of the 2002 World Cup, and Indonesia also applied to host the Asian Cup.
Originally, the continental tournament with 24 teams should have taken place in China. Due to the still strict rules for implementing the zero-Covid strategy, the Chinese Football Association announced in May 2022 that it would not be available as a host.
Appointment open
When exactly the Asian Cup will be held is open. Because there are extremely high temperatures in Qatar in the summer, the originally planned date from mid-June to mid-July could still be postponed. The defending champions are Qatar, who beat Japan 3-1 in the 2019 final.
