Mané’s post hit was the only excitement for a long time
Senegal had already scored one goal from the penalty spot in the group stage and struggled again. That came with Bayern Munich’s Bouna Sarr in the starting XI team to an early shot by Mané (2nd), but for a long time it was the only excitement – until the violent clash between Mané and Vozinha, as a result of which the goalkeeper was sent off.
It was Mané again who scored from a corner. The attacker had to be substituted a little later, and in the closing stages Cape Verde even had a chance to equalize before Dieng made the final score.
Minute of silence before kick-off
With a minute’s silence, the players remembered the deaths of the previous day before the kick-off of both games. When hosts Cameroon reached the quarter-finals on Monday evening, a mass panic killed eight people and injured 38 others.
